Bård Misund is a Professor in Accounting and Management at the University of Stavanger's School of Business, Department of Accounting and Law. He holds a PhD in Industrial Economics from the University of Stavanger and brings over 15 years of industry experience from the energy and seafood sectors, including a significant tenure at Equinor ASA (formerly Statoil) where he served as a Senior Economist, Leading Advisor, and Specialist in Valuation. His academic work is deeply rooted in the economic and financial dynamics of commodity industries.
His research expertise spans valuation of complex investment projects (including real options), business and equity valuation, financial statement analysis, commodity price behavior and risk, risk management (particularly hedging commodity price risk), and taxation in commodity markets. These interests are reflected in his extensive publication record and active involvement in key research groups such as UiS EREE, UiS Energy Finance, and the Capital Market Research in Accounting Finance Group at UiS Business School.
The recent trend in his scholarly output shows a strong focus on aquaculture economics, particularly salmon farming, including studies on taxation, investment behavior, market pricing, and sustainability. His work also continues to engage with energy finance, especially oil and gas valuation and risk. This dual focus on energy and seafood commodities underscores his specialization in high-risk, resource-based industries.
His research is supported by major funding bodies including the Research Council of Norway and Fiskeri- og havbruksnæringens Forskningsfinansiering (FHF).
