Bärbl Hohmann serves as Lecturer for special tasks at Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences, where she teaches in the Interior Design program. She also holds positions at RheinMain University of Applied Sciences and has taught at TU Darmstadt's Architecture department.
Her educational background includes a Diploma in Architecture from Munich University of Applied Sciences (2000). She has collaborated with architectural firms ABDR Architetti Associati in Rome and Jörg Pampe in Berlin, and is engaged with the Association of Scenographers on Ecological Sustainability initiatives.
Hohmann specializes in stage design, scenography, theatrical staging, light design, and color theory. Her teaching philosophy emphasizes the intellectual dimensions of scaled-down models, as reflected in her statement quoting Claude Levi Strauss: "The inner power of the scaled-down model lies in the fact that it compensates for the loss of sensory dimensions by the gain of intellectual dimensions."

Her professional experience spans over two decades as a stage and costume designer and scenographer at prestigious institutions including the State Opera and State Theater Stuttgart, German Opera on the Rhine Düsseldorf, Berlin State Opera, Prinzregententheater Munich, Theater Bremen, State Opera Hanover, German National Theatre Weimar, SWR Festival Schwetzingen, Krakow Opera, and Linz State Theatre.
She recommends key resources for students including the Venice Biennales, theaters in Frankfurt, Darmstadt, and Wiesbaden, and important texts on scenography and theater design by authors such as Petra Hesse, Ulrike Haß, Atelier Brückner, Anna Viebrock, Katrin Brack, Jan Pappelbaum, Bert Neumann, Johannes Schütz, and Michel Pastoureau.
