Byunggu Yu

Byunggu Yu is a Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Information Technology at the University of the District of Columbia (UDC), affiliated with the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences. He holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the Illinois Institute of Technology.

His research focuses on databases, data engineering, artificial intelligence, artificial consciousness, and environmental monitoring. He has led significant initiatives including a faculty appointment at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST, 2013-2018) and chaired UDC's Computer Science department (2008-2014). His work includes curriculum development, program management, and project leadership in AI and data science.

Selected grants include U.S. Air Force funding for adversarial AI filters (2023), NSF grants for aquaponics automation (2015) and environmental monitoring (2009), and workforce development partnerships (2009). Presentations at major conferences highlight his contributions to AI ethics, anomaly detection, and machine learning applications.
