Byung-Jin Lim is an Associate Professor of Korean Linguistics at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, affiliated with the Department of Asian Languages and Cultures. He focuses on second language acquisition, Korean linguistics, and technology-enhanced language education. His research explores speech perception, bilingualism, and telecollaborative methods in language learning. He coordinates all Korean language courses at UW-Madison and leads a textbook development project, 'My Korean,' published by Routledge. Lim’s work emphasizes student-centered pedagogy and intercultural communication through videoconferencing.
Education: Ph.D., Indiana University-Bloomington.
Research Interests: Lim investigates speech decoding mechanisms, bilingual phonetic category acquisition, and instructional technology’s role in language education. His book Perceiving Syllables and Contrasts proposes a dynamic model of bilingual language acquisition. He pioneered videoconferencing-based approaches to enhance language learners’ intercultural and linguistic competencies.
