Bumba Mukherjee is a Professor of Political Science at Penn State University, affiliated with the College of the Liberal Arts and the Department of Political Science. He previously held positions at the University of Notre Dame, Florida State University, and Princeton University. His research focuses on political economy of populism, political violence, civil conflict, development, and statistical methodology, including spatial statistics and causal inference.
Education includes a Ph.D. from Columbia University (2004), an M.Phil. from Cambridge University (1997), and an M.A. from the University of Chicago (1996). He has authored numerous books, including *Globalization, Democracy and Trade Policy in the Developing World* (University of Chicago Press) and *The Politics of Corruption in Dictatorships* (Cambridge University Press).
His work appears in top journals like the *American Journal of Political Science*, *Annual Review of Political Science*, and *Journal of Conflict Resolution*. He has developed statistical software packages such as BayesSPsurv and IDCeMPy. Current projects include studies on populism, authoritarian regimes, and causal machine learning.
Grants include funding from the National Science Foundation and the McCourtney Institute for Democracy. He has advised over 20 doctoral students, many of whom hold academic and policy roles globally. His research bridges theoretical contributions with methodological innovation in political science.
