Bruno Mataloto is a Visiting Assistant Professor in the Department of Digital Technologies at ISCTE-University Institute of Lisbon's School of Technologies and Architecture. He leads the ISCTE-IUL Internet of Things Laboratory and serves as a researcher at ISTAR-Iscte - Research Center in Information Sciences, Technologies and Architecture. His academic background includes a PhD in Information Sciences and Technologies (2019-2024), Master's (2017-2019), and Bachelor's (2014-2017) in Telecommunications and Computer Engineering from the same institution.
His research focuses on Internet of Things applications in smart cities, energy management systems, human behavior modeling, and sustainable technologies. Key areas include low-power networks, interactive dashboards, 3D virtual environments, and real-time monitoring systems for resource conservation. His work integrates Building Information Modeling (BIM) with IoT to optimize building operations and user experiences.
Mataloto's publications demonstrate strong focus on IoT-enabled sustainability solutions, with recent work exploring blockchain integration for decentralized systems, pandemic impacts on urban environments, and precision agriculture technologies. His research consistently addresses energy efficiency challenges through technical innovation and behavioral insights.
He has supervised multiple graduate students on IoT-related projects including energy-optimized lighting systems, water resource management, precision agriculture sensors, and coastal communication networks. Current doctoral supervision includes comparative analysis of communication protocols for agricultural monitoring systems.
As principal investigator, he leads the Social-IoT project studying behavioral change for energy savings, and co-leads the NEEM initiative establishing e-health programs in Nepal. He directs the IoT Laboratory developing smart city solutions and has taught core courses including Internet of Things Laboratory, Programming Fundamentals, and Disruptive Technologies across undergraduate and graduate programs.
