Bruno Martorelli Di Genova, Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor at the University of Vermont in the Robert Larner, M.D. College of Medicine within the Department of Microbiology and Molecular Genetics. He joined the faculty in 2021 and focuses on eukaryotic pathogens, particularly Toxoplasma gondii and Giardia lamblia.
- Doctoral Studies: Ph.D. from Paulista Medical School (EPM), Federal University of São Paulo (UNIFESP), Brazil
- Postdoctoral Research: University of Wisconsin–Madison with Dr. Knoll
Research Interests center on understanding parasite-host interactions, chronic infection mechanisms, and drug development for Apicomplexan parasites. His work employs imaging, OMICS, and molecular techniques to identify therapeutic targets.
Recent publications highlight his focus on Toxoplasma gondii metabolism, drug targets like MyosinA, and cross-species comparisons of coccidian parasites. He also develops metabarcoding protocols like VESPA for parasite assemblage analysis.
Lab Members: Gabriel Messina, Aditya Patwardhan, and Meghan Quinlan collaborate on host-parasite dynamics and drug discovery projects.
