Bruce Strang is a Professor at Brandon University, specializing in Twentieth-Century European history with a focus on Fascist ideology, international relations (1879-1945), and the histories of Italy, Germany, France, Britain, and the Soviet Union. His research emphasizes interwar diplomacy, colonial conflicts, and the origins of major global conflicts. He holds degrees from the University of Winnipeg (B.A.) and McMaster University (M.A., Ph.D.).
Strang’s publications include On the Fiery March: Mussolini Prepares for War (2003) and the edited volume Collision of Empires: Italy’s Invasion of Ethiopia and its International Impact (2013). His work explores topics such as Italian colonialism, British appeasement strategies, and the complexities of pre-WWII alliances. He has contributed to journals like Diplomacy & Statecraft, Historical Journal, and Journal of Contemporary History.
His research highlights themes such as Mussolini’s foreign policy, the Abyssinian Crisis, and the geopolitical dynamics of Eastern and Central Europe. He has served as Senior Historical Consultant for Historica: 1000 Years of Our Lives and Times (2006). His teaching interests include historical pedagogy, as evidenced by his 1997 article on university teaching methodologies.
