معرفی
Prof. Bruce Cornell is an Adjunct Professor in the School of Life Sciences at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS). His research focuses on membrane biophysics, lipid bilayer dynamics, and the development of biomimetic sensors. He has contributed extensively to understanding ion channel activity, membrane-protein interactions, and the design of novel biosensors using tethered bilayer lipid membranes (tBLMs).
His work integrates biophysical techniques like impedance spectroscopy and Langmuir-Blodgett deposition to study membrane stability, antimicrobial peptide activity, and cholesterol regulation of proteins such as CLIC1. Collaborations include researchers from multiple disciplines, and he has secured funding for projects investigating lipid membrane architectures, gold nanoparticle interactions, and real-time enzyme detection systems.
Key research areas include: (1) Tethered lipid membranes for biosensing applications, (2) Mechanisms of membrane insertion by proteins and peptides, (3) Environmental effects (pH, ions, sterols) on membrane structure, and (4) Development of point-of-care diagnostic devices using impedance-based assays. His studies often involve interdisciplinary approaches combining experimental and computational methods.
