Bruce Branson

Bruce Branson is a Professor of Accounting and Associate Director of the Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) Initiative at North Carolina State University. He serves as Interim Director of the Undergraduate Accounting Program. His research focuses on enterprise risk management maturity, financial reporting, and hedging strategies. Branson holds a Ph.D. and B.S. in Accounting from Florida State University (1992 and 1988 respectively).

He co-authors the annual ERM survey reports with AICPA and develops thought papers on risk reporting to boards. His work emphasizes integrating ERM with organizational strategy and enhancing transparency in risk disclosures. Branson contributes to ERM education through executive workshops and the ERM Initiative’s ERM in the News newsletter.

His research spans determinants of financial analyst interest, time-series analysis of accounting variables, and adoption decisions for ERM frameworks. Notable publications include analyses of SEC proxy disclosures and surveys on executive risk perceptions.

Branson has advised organizations on sustainability risks, emphasizing that ESG initiatives drive business value. He has been featured in Triangle Business Journal and CBS17 for his insights on climate-related risk and corporate responsibility.
