Research Themes
Dr. Nickel's research bridges public health, cancer communication, and health psychology. She investigates how breast density notification affects screening adherence, AI in cancer screening, and equitable healthcare practices for culturally diverse populations. Her work on relabeling low-risk cancers (e.g., melanoma in situ, DCIS) informs clinical guidelines and patient-centered care.
Recent article trends show expertise in health communication, screening program evaluation, and social determinants of cancer outcomes. She analyzes digital health tools, PREMs, and telehealth impacts during the pandemic.
