Brooke D. Coleman serves as Vice Dean for Academic Affairs and Fredric C. Tausend Professor of Law at the Seattle University School of Law. Her expertise spans civil procedure, advanced litigation, and federal courts. She holds a B.A. (summa cum laude) from the University of Arizona (1996) and a J.D. from Harvard Law School (1999).
Professor Coleman’s research focuses on procedural justice, with publications in top-tier law reviews including the New York University Law Review and Northwestern Law Review. She co-edited A Guide to Civil Procedure: Integrating Critical Legal Perspectives and authored Learning Civil Procedure, while co-founding the Civil Procedure Workshop. Her work emphasizes diversity in legal rulemaking and gender dynamics in litigation.
Recipient of multiple teaching awards, including the 2020–2021 Provost’s Award for Excellence in Teaching, she previously served as Special Assistant to the Vice President for Diversity & Inclusion at Seattle University. Prior roles include Stanford Law School’s Thomas C. Grey Fellowship, judicial clerkship for Hon. David F. Levi, and litigation practice at Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati.
Her scholarship critiques procedural inequities and advocates for inclusive legal systems. Public engagement includes commentary on high-profile cases like the Kavanaugh confirmation hearings, emphasizing societal implications of legal processes.
