Dr. Bronwyn Berthon is a Lecturer in the School of Biomedical Sciences and Pharmacy at the University of Newcastle, and Research Program Manager of the Immune Health Program at the Hunter Medical Research Institute. She holds a PhD in Medical Biochemistry and specializes in clinical trials investigating the relationship between nutrition, inflammation, and respiratory diseases like asthma and obesity-related conditions.
Her research focuses on dietary interventions to improve asthma management, including soluble fiber supplementation, short-chain fatty acids, and anti-inflammatory diets. She collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to explore mechanistic pathways linking nutrient intake to disease pathology.
Dr. Berthon has supervised 9 completed and 2 current PhD students, co-leads clinical trials, and manages research infrastructure. Her work has led to $2.16M in grants, including studies on sex hormones' role in asthma and obesity, lactoferrin's anti-viral effects, and personalized asthma management through nutrition.
Awards include the 2021 TSANZ Best Oral Presentation and 2010 Vice Chancellors Award.
