Dr. Brona Murphy is an Associate Professor in the Department of Physiology & Medical Physics and principal investigator within the Centre for Systems Medicine at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI). She holds a B.Sc. in Biotechnology from NUI Galway (2000), PhD in Molecular Cell Biology from Trinity College Dublin (2004), and MSc in Leadership & Management from RCSI (2011). Her research focuses on understanding molecular mechanisms of cell death resistance in brain tumors to develop more effective cancer therapies.
Research interests include:
- Molecular pathways of apoptosis in glioblastoma
- Overcoming treatment resistance in pediatric brain tumors
- Novel therapeutic strategies targeting cell death mechanisms
Her research is funded by EI, HRB, SFI, NCRC and H2020 Framework Programme. She coordinates student research projects and leads the department's teaching programs.
Scientific awards include:
- Stokes Lectureship from Science Foundation Ireland
- Health Research Board Post-Doctoral Fellowship
