Prof. Dr. Britta Blotenberg serves as Professor of Care, especially nursing care at Flensburg University of Applied Sciences, where she is affiliated with the Department of Business Management and the Institute for eHealth and Healthcare Management (IEMG). She holds office in Room D 330 and provides Nursing Academic Study Advisory. Blotenberg is currently developing a new nursing degree program in collaboration with Prof. Dr. Beatrice Podtschaske, with recent partnerships established with Malteser and DIAKO as of February 2025.
Blotenberg completed her professional journey beginning with registered nurse training after high school, followed by academic studies in nursing management at Fulda University. Seeking a stronger focus on people-centered care, she transferred to the University of Witten/Herdecke to study nursing science, where she earned her bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees. Her transition from clinical practice to academia reflects her commitment to scientifically underpinning nursing interventions while maintaining the humanistic aspects of care that inspired her initial career choice.
Her research primarily centers on preventive home visits for elderly individuals in rural areas, digitalization in nursing, and eHealth solutions. Blotenberg has modelled and evaluated preventive home visits, demonstrating their significant positive impact on the psychological health of seniors. Her work shows these low-threshold counseling approaches help maintain independence, promote social participation, and empower older adults to live in their familiar environments for longer periods. She has published 17 scholarly works with growing citation impact, and currently leads the "CARE-AI: Paving the way for artificial intelligence to support end-of-life care" project.
Analysis of Blotenberg's publication history reveals a consistent trajectory focused on rural healthcare challenges for aging populations. Her early work established foundational research on preventive home visits, while her more recent publications increasingly incorporate digital solutions and AI applications. The thematic evolution shows progression from basic acceptance studies to sophisticated longitudinal analyses of health outcomes, and now to cutting-edge AI integration in end-of-life care. Her research consistently emphasizes the empowerment of elderly individuals through community-based, low-threshold interventions.
