Briona Simone Jones

Briona Simone Jones is Audre Lorde Visiting Professor of Queer Studies at Spelman College, affiliated with the Women's Research and Resource Center. Previously assistant professor at University of Connecticut and Michigan State University Distinguished Fellow.

Research Focus

Foundational scholarship in:

• Black lesbian intellectual traditions and queer theory
• African American literature post-1895
• Decolonial frameworks in gender/sexuality studies

Her anthology Mouths of Rain documents Black lesbian thought across genres.

Teaching

Developed courses on Audre Lorde's legacy and Black queer life narratives. Collaborates with faculty including Dr. Beverly Guy-Sheftall on radical pedagogy.
