Brigitte Schloegl is a Researcher affiliated with the University of Leipzig’s Faculty of Life Sciences, Institute of Biology, and collaborates with the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology in Leipzig. Her research focuses on social complexity in birds and mammals, integrating behavioral, genetic, and chemical ecology approaches. She specializes in chemical communication, particularly in primates and cooperatively breeding mammals, analyzing scent-based social information using bioassays, gas chromatography-mass spectrometry, and non-invasive sampling methods.
Her academic background includes a PhD in Behavioral Biology (2008, University of Vienna) and a diploma in Biology (2000, University of Vienna). She has held postdoctoral positions at institutions like the University of Groningen (Netherlands) and the University of Tübingen, focusing on quantitative genetics of social behavior and stress physiology in geese.
Teaching responsibilities include lectures on Primate Evolution & Taxonomy, Behavioral Ecology, and statistics in R. She has contributed to over 50 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters, often exploring olfactory communication, social behavior, and reproductive strategies in primates and birds.
Her work emphasizes optimizing sampling techniques for chemical analyses and evaluating statistical methods for multi-dimensional data. She has received grants, such as the NWO Visitors Grant (2013-2014), and serves as a referee for journals like Animal Behaviour and Behavioral Ecology and Sociobiology.
