Brigitte Boissavit-Camus is a Professor of Art History and Medieval Archaeology at Paris Nanterre University since 2013, previously serving as a lecturer there from 2002. She is affiliated with the Texts and Monuments of Antiquity and the Middle Ages (THEMAM) research team within the Archaeology and Sciences of Antiquity (ArScAn) unit. Her career includes significant archaeological work at the French Ministry of Culture from 1985-2002, directing the National Center for Urban Archaeology in Tours.
Her educational foundation comprises studies in history, art history, and archaeology at the University of Poitiers, culminating in a 2001 thesis on the evolution of Poitiers' episcopal district.
Specializing in 4th-12th century religious architecture, funerary practices, and urban development in central France, she integrates sedimentary/built field archaeology with architectural analysis to decode social uses and religious practices. Current research focuses on the Saint-Jean baptistery in Poitiers and the monastery of Déols, examining spatial configurations as historical indicators through combined methodological approaches.
Her academic contributions include lecture courses on Notre-Dame de Poitiers collegiate church transformation into heritage objects and west-central France monastic architecture spanning ten centuries, demonstrating expertise in historical-archaeological interpretation of religious structures.
