Brigham Walker is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Health Policy and Management at Tulane University School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine. He also holds numerous affiliations including Research Affiliate at the Institute of Labor Economics (IZA), Adjunct Faculty at the University of Arkansas Department of HPAM, Associate Member of the Population Sciences & Disparities Program at TU Cancer Center, and Affiliated Faculty at Portland State University's Department of Economics.
Dr. Walker's educational background includes a PhD in Economics and Master's in Economic Analysis and Policy from Tulane University, a Master's in Finance from the University of London, a Master's in Management from Harvard University, and a Bachelor's in Molecular Biology from Princeton University. His training also includes the National Bureau of Economic Research Health Economics Boot Camp (2019).
His research focuses on two interconnected areas: health economics examining provider and patient responses to incentives or information, and equity research investigating discrimination and disparities in healthcare access. His work employs rigorous methodologies including field experiments and audit studies to measure discrimination in healthcare settings. Recent projects examine telemedicine utilization patterns, appointment access disparities by race and gender, and the impacts of health policy changes on vulnerable populations.
Dr. Walker's publications span economics, public health, and medical journals, with recent work appearing in Journal of Economic Behavior & Organization, JAMA Network Open, and American Journal of Public Health. His research demonstrates consistent thematic focus on healthcare access barriers, discrimination mechanisms, and policy evaluation, with increasing emphasis on telehealth dynamics following the COVID-19 pandemic.

Dr. Walker actively mentors doctoral, master's, and undergraduate students, serving as Committee Chair for multiple PhD candidates and mentoring MPH and MHA students who have received Tulane '34 Awards. His current research is supported by substantial external funding from The Commonwealth Fund, Health Resources and Services Administration, and internal Tulane grants. He teaches Health Services Research Methods and Dynamics of Payment Systems, integrating his active research on healthcare access disparities and policy evaluation into his courses.
