Bridget Martin is the Croft Assistant Professor of Anthropology and Korean Studies at the University of Mississippi, affiliated with the Department of Sociology & Anthropology and the Croft Institute for International Studies. She also serves as Co-Director of the Minor in Geography. Her work bridges urban and political geography, focusing on US-Korea alliance dynamics through land, territory, and militarism.
Education: Ph.D. in Geography (UC Berkeley) with a Designated Emphasis in Global Metropolitan Studies; M.A. in Politics (The New School for Social Research). Previous fellowships include roles at Harvard University’s Korea Institute and the US-Asia Grand Strategy Program (USC).
Research Interests: Urban geographies of militarism, land dispossession during the Korean War, US military land returns in South Korea, and geopolitical urbanism. Her work critically examines the intersections of military presence, real estate markets, and sovereignty.
Awards: 2022-23 US-Korea NextGen Scholars Program, SBS Korean Studies Postdoctoral Fellowship (2021), and multiple fellowships from institutions like the Korea Foundation and Social Science Research Council.
