Brianne Pitts is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Teaching, Learning and Educational Studies at Western Michigan University. Her office is located in Sangren Hall.
Her research examines critical approaches to education, focusing on racial justice in curriculum design, Black historical consciousness, and inclusive literacy practices. She explores how pedagogical frameworks can challenge systemic inequities in K-12 settings.
Recent publications demonstrate a strong focus on anti-racist education through multiple modalities: critical analysis of social studies curricula, culturally responsive picture books, and Deaf/multilingual literacy development. Her work consistently addresses representation, power dynamics, and transformative pedagogies.
