Brian Porter-Szucs is the Arthur F. Thurnau Professor of History at the University of Michigan, Department of History. He directs undergraduate studies and focuses on Modern Poland, Economics of Socialism and Capitalism, and Roman Catholicism. His work spans intellectual and cultural history, nationalism, and religion. Educated at the University of Wisconsin (PhD, 1994), his research explores Poland's modern trajectory, including socialism's economic impacts and religious influences on national identity. Recent publications include Commodified Communism (2025) and Całkiem zwyczajny kraj (2021). Awards include the Arthur F. Thurnau Professorship. His articles address themes like nationalism, religious modernity, and transnational history, with frequent engagement in Eastern European studies.
