Dr. Brian May is a Senior Clinical Research Fellow at the Department of Health and Biomedical Sciences, RMIT University. His research focuses on traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), evidence-based practices, and integrative approaches to chronic conditions such as cancer pain, dementia, psoriasis, and colorectal cancer. He leads projects evaluating herbal therapies' efficacy and safety, including systematic reviews and clinical trials. His work bridges classical TCM literature with modern biomedical research, emphasizing translational applications. Notably, he has published extensively on herbal treatments for rhinosinusitis, cancer pain management, and Alzheimer’s disease, with over 79 research outputs. He collaborates globally and actively supervises research projects on herbal medicine’s role in reducing disease recurrence and improving patient outcomes.
Dr. May’s research interests include text/data mining of classical TCM texts, quality control of herbal products, and regulatory issues. He teaches evidence-based medicine, systematic reviews, and TCM history. His research has been cited widely in journals like PLoS ONE, Pharmacological Research, and Journal of Alternative & Complementary Medicine. He holds an ORCID identifier (0000-0002-5864-3020) and is based at RMIT’s Bundoora West campus.
