Brian L. Pagenkopf serves as a Professor in the Department of Chemistry within Western University's Faculty of Science. His research group focuses on synthetic organic chemistry with emphases in reaction discovery, methodology development, and natural products/functional materials synthesis. He maintains active laboratory facilities in Chemistry Building rooms ChB 210 (lab) and ChB 214 (office).
His research interests span Synthetic Organic Chemistry, Natural Product Total Synthesis, Catalysis, and Silole-Based Materials. Pagenkopf's group develops new transformations aiming for integration into standard synthetic repertoires, using natural products to ensure synthetic relevancy. Key technical expertise includes cyclopropanes, epoxide reactions, THF synthesis, asymmetric catalysis, and silole chemistry.
His research output demonstrates strong activity in electrochemiluminescent materials and novel cycloaddition methodologies. Publications reveal consistent focus on reaction mechanism elucidation, scalable synthetic methods, and structure-property relationships in organic materials.
Scientific Awards:
- College of Natural Sciences Teaching Excellence Award
- Department of Defense New Investigator Award
- NSERC Discovery Accelerator Supplement
Pagenkopf teaches across multiple undergraduate organic chemistry courses including Organic Chemistry II (2283), Organic Chemistry III (3373), and advanced graduate courses (9563, 9623, 9723). His research program operates through multidisciplinary collaborations and external funding sources including NSERC and DoD grants. The group maintains active connections through Google Scholar, ResearchGate, and LinkedIn profiles.
