Brian Joyce, PhD, is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Preventive Medicine (Cancer Epidemiology and Prevention) at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. His research focuses on identifying epigenetic biomarkers of environmental exposures and behaviors (e.g., pollutants, diet, exercise) in relation to social determinants of health and age-related chronic diseases such as cancer and cardiovascular disease, using population cohort studies like the Coronary Artery Risk Development in Young Adults (CARDIA) study and the Hispanic Community Health Study/Study of Latinos.
- Education: PhD from the University of Illinois at Chicago (2016)
- Affiliations: Robert J. Havey, MD Institute for Global Health - Center for Global Oncology
Research Interests
- Epigenetic biomarkers for environmental and behavioral exposures
- Social determinants of health in chronic disease
- Epigenetic aging and its links to cancer and cardiovascular disease
- Population cohort studies (CARDIA, HCHS/SOL)
- Global health research (Nigeria, HIV comorbidities)
Publication Trends: Recent work spans epigenetic aging, DNA methylation in HIV comorbidities, social determinants of cardiovascular health, and biomarker development for cervical and liver cancers. His studies often integrate epidemiologic methods with multi-omics data.
