Dr. Jacobsen's research examines economic aspects of environmental regulation in agriculture, particularly costs associated with reducing nitrogen leaching, ammonia emissions, and greenhouse gases. His work bridges economic modeling with practical policy implementation, focusing on manure management technologies, organic farming adoption, and Water Framework Directive compliance. Recent projects analyze compensation mechanisms for wetland establishment and spatial constraints near Natura 2000 areas.
His publication record shows strong emphasis on cost-effectiveness analysis of environmental measures, with significant output in journals like Journal of Environmental Management and Land Use Policy. Research trends indicate increasing focus on integrating non-market values (aesthetic/recreational) into regulatory cost assessments and comparative analysis of EU environmental policies.
Professional Activities:
- Chairman of organizing committee for XXIII IFMA Congress (Copenhagen 2021)
- Board member, International Farm Management Organisation
- Committee member (2023-2027) for external organization
- Local Union representative (vice-chairman)
- Board member, FOI (employee representative)
Dr. Jacobsen leads multiple funded projects including LEAP (€3.0M, WaterWorks2015), rOpen (€0.8M, Innovation Fund), and Mapfield (€1.1M, Innovation Fund). His advisory role focuses on translating research into policy through frequent engagements with Danish ministries (MFVM, Agricultural Agency) and participation in 86 lectures/oral contributions since 2018. Current research collaborations span Germany, Netherlands, and seven European countries for fertilizer adoption studies.
