Brian Gilchrist

Dr. Brian Gilchrist is an Assistant Professor at Long Island University's Brooklyn Campus within the School of Health Professions. He transitioned to the Division of Athletic Training, Health & Exercise Science in 2016 after serving in the LIU Masters of Public Health program. His academic credentials include a PhD in Behavioral & Community Health, an MPH in Public Health, and a BS in Biology.

Dr. Gilchrist specializes in community violence, dating violence, and health education, with a focus on Community-Based Participatory Research (CBPR), translational research, and health promotion for minority, urban, and adolescent male populations. His work spans three continents (Africa, Asia, Europe) and includes interventions targeting urban adolescents, homeless individuals, incarcerated men, and substance users.

His publications address dating violence prevention, predictors of non-physical dating violence victimization, and health career aspirations among minority populations. These studies often employ mixed-methods approaches and emphasize community engagement.
