Brian Fogarty

Brian Fogarty is Associate Professor of the Practice at the University of Notre Dame, serving as Associate Director of the Lucy Family Institute overseeing the Center for Social Science Research. He holds a concurrent appointment in Political Science. His research examines political communication, voting behavior, media effects on perceptions of electoral integrity, and quantitative methodology.

His recent work analyzes how misinformation about voter fraud spreads through media and explores interventions like corrections and prebunking. Methodologically, he specializes in generalized linear models, count data analysis, and quantitative text analysis.

Notable awards include the Bender Teaching Award (GWU, 2005) and Fellowship of Recognising Excellence in Teaching (Glasgow, 2018). He directs research projects funded by NSF, MIT Election Lab, and Lilly Endowment, focusing on election legitimacy and misperceptions.

He teaches courses on research design, social science statistics, and data visualization. Previously at University of Missouri-St. Louis and University of Glasgow, he led initiatives embedding quantitative methods in social sciences.
