Brian Fikkert is a Professor of Economics and Community Development at Covenant College since 1997, and serves as President of The Chalmers Center. His work integrates biblical perspectives with poverty alleviation, emphasizing ethical approaches to development. He holds a PhD from Yale University, along with an MPhil and BA from Dordt College.
Research interests focus on poverty alleviation strategies, social innovation, and theological foundations of economics. He critiques materialistic paradigms and advocates for holistic, community-centered development models. His publications address global poverty interventions, the dangers of harmful aid practices, and the intersection of faith and economics.
Key works include When Helping Hurts (2009) and Becoming Whole (2019), which explore transformative approaches to poverty. His writings emphasize sustainable solutions over temporary fixes, informed by interdisciplinary research and decades of field experience.
Prof. Fikkert oversees the Chalmers Center, a think tank advancing faith-based poverty solutions. His teaching equips students to engage in nonprofits, international development, and innovative social enterprises. Beyond academia, he maintains a passion for Green Bay Packers football and reflects on theology's role in economic systems.
