Brian Cozen

Brian Cozen is an Associate Professor in the Department of Communication at California State University, Fresno, within the College of Arts and Humanities. He holds a PhD in Communication from the University of Utah (2015), an MA in Communication from the University of Washington (2009), and a BA in Sociology from the University of California, Berkeley (2006).

Research Interests: His work focuses on how communication mediates human-environment relationships, particularly energy practices. Key areas include Environmental Communication, Energy Communication, and Participatory Critical Rhetoric. His scholarship bridges theoretical frameworks with empirical studies, such as analyzing the UN's energy access campaigns and nuclear energy discourse.

Selected Publications: Recent articles explore energy democracy, rhetorical theory intersections with energy policy, and the cultural politics of electricity in media. Notably, he co-authored the 2018 article "Energy communication: Theory and praxis toward a sustainable energy future" in Environmental Communication.

Teaching: Dr. Cozen teaches courses in Environmental Communication, Rhetorical Theory, and American Public Address, emphasizing ecological issues relevant to California.
