Brian Camley

Brian Camley is an Assistant Professor with joint appointments in Physics & Astronomy and Biophysics at Johns Hopkins University. His research investigates the physics of cell biology, focusing on cell motility, collective behavior, chemotaxis, and subcellular processes like membrane dynamics. He develops computational models to understand how cells respond to signals, move through environments, and organize collectively.

Education: Ph.D. in Biophysics from University of California, Santa Barbara (2012)

Research explores: (1) mechanisms of cell sensing and gradient detection; (2) physical principles governing collective cell motion; (3) membrane-protein interactions and intracellular transport; (4) hydrodynamic effects in cellular systems; and (5) computational modeling of biological processes.
