Dr. Brian Callahan is a Senior Lecturer and Graduate Program Director in the Department of Information Technology and Web Science at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. He also serves as Director of the Rensselaer Cybersecurity Collaboratory, a cybersecurity research lab and top-tier CTF team. Callahan’s work bridges technical cybersecurity expertise with business, social, and educational applications, emphasizing the long-term maintenance of digital humanities software systems. He actively develops the OpenBSD operating system, integrating professional experience with teaching.
His research interests span cybersecurity’s technical foundations, its business and social implications, and the development of inclusive STEM education tools. He oversees undergraduate concentrations in Information Security and Science & Technology Studies, as well as the graduate Information Security concentration. Recent publications highlight advancements in augmented reality for cybersecurity education, quantum cybersecurity methodologies, and open source collaboration dynamics.
