Brian Bix serves as the Frederick W. Thomas Professor of Law and Philosophy at the University of Minnesota Law School with a joint appointment in the Department of Philosophy, where he has taught jurisprudence, family law, and contract law since joining the faculty in 2001.
His educational background includes a B.A., summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa, from Washington University in St. Louis (1983); a J.D., magna cum laude, from Harvard Law School (1986); and a D.Phil. in Law from Balliol College, Oxford University (1991).
Professor Bix's research centers on contracts, family law, jurisprudence, and legal philosophy, with significant influence evidenced by his ranking among the top-cited scholars nationally. His scholarly impact spans theoretical legal philosophy and practical applications in family and contract law.
