Brian Baumgart is a Professor of English and Coordinator of the English Department at North Hennepin Community College. He is also the Director of the AFA in Creative Writing Program and has served as a 2018 Artist-in-Residence at the University of Minnesota's Cedar Creek Ecological Science Reserve.

Brian's research and creative work spans poetry, fiction, and creative nonfiction, with a focus on themes of environmental writing, social justice, and mental health advocacy. His poetry has been nominated for the Pushcart Prize and Best of the Net awards.

Brian actively advises students through the Realities publication and is part of the NHCC Minnesota State College Faculty (MSCF) union leadership team. His work at Northern Starz Center for the Performing Arts highlights his commitment to inclusive arts programming.
