Brian Barkdoll is a Professor in the Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering at Michigan Technological University. His research focuses on sedimentation, scour, river mechanics, and sustainable water systems. He holds a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from the University of Iowa (1997), M.S. from the University of Cincinnati (1992), and B.S.C.E. from the University of Akron (1985). He served in the U.S. Peace Corps in Nepal from 1985–1989.

Professional Service: Chair of the Sedimentation Technical Committee (ASCE), Diplomate of the Academy of Water Resources Engineers (D.WRE), and member of 8 professional societies. He has reviewed for 10 journals and funding organizations.
Grants & Funding: Over $1.5M in research contracts, including projects with USDA, NSF, and National Academy of Sciences. Notable grants include "$450K for Countermeasures to Protect Bridge Abutments from Scour" (NCHRP) and "$275K for Geotechnical Evaluation of Cohesive Materials" (USDA).
