Dr. Brian Allman is an Associate Professor in the Department of Anatomy & Cell Biology at Western University, affiliated with the National Centre for Audiology. His research focuses on systems-level neurophysiology, investigating multisensory processing, cortical plasticity following hearing loss, and mechanisms underlying tinnitus. He holds a Ph.D. and B.Sc. from the University of Western Ontario.
Research interests include how the brain integrates sensory information (e.g., vision and sound) and adapts to hearing loss, with studies using electrophysiological techniques in animal models. Key themes are crossmodal plasticity, auditory cortical reorganization, and the neurobiological basis of tinnitus. He invites students from Neuroscience, Engineering, and related fields to join his lab.
His work bridges basic science and clinical challenges, exploring rehabilitative therapies for hearing loss and tinnitus. He collaborates on projects involving genetic models (e.g., Cntnap2 knockout rats) and translational studies on sensorimotor and cognitive disorders.
