Brett Hyde is an Associate Professor in the Department of Philosophy and Linguistics at Washington University, serving as Director of Linguistics. He holds a PhD from Rutgers University. His research primarily examines phonology and metrical stress theory, with current projects exploring weight-insensitive binary stress patterns, NonFinality constraints, Banawá prosody phenomena, and syllable weight measurement in unbounded stress systems.
Hyde investigates how Optimality Theory models linguistic competence and performance, particularly focusing on language variation within individual speakers through production-specific frameworks.
