Bret Kloos is a Professor of Psychology and Graduate Director at the University of South Carolina, affiliated with the McCausland College of Arts and Sciences. He also holds an adjunct faculty position in the College of Social Work. His work focuses on community psychology, homelessness, mental health recovery, and social inclusion. Kloos earned his Ph.D. in Clinical-Community Psychology from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and has held prior faculty roles at Yale University School of Medicine.

Research interests include recovery from serious mental illness, homelessness interventions, mutual support networks, and community-based solutions. His HAF Lab explores housing environments and adaptive functioning, collaborating with organizations like Mental Health America and ABLE SC. Key projects involve community integration, disaster mental health, and family homelessness.
Publications span community psychology textbooks, peer-reviewed articles on housing and mental health, and evaluations of supportive housing programs. Awards include the Fulbright Scholarship (2012) and recognition for service learning and teaching excellence.
Grants include NIMH-funded studies on housing and adaptive functioning, and collaborations with the National Institute of Disability Rehabilitation and Research. Kloos advises numerous graduate students and has supervised over 30 theses/dissertations, many focusing on homelessness, mental health stigma, and community interventions.
