Bret Asbury serves as Professor of Law and Associate Dean at Drexel University's Thomas R. Kline School of Law, where he teaches Animal Law, Civil Procedure, Federal Courts, Jurisprudence, and Literature and the Law Seminar. His faculty profile positions him as an active legal scholar and administrator within the institution.
Professor Asbury earned his JD from Yale Law School, where he served as managing editor of The Yale Law Journal and senior editor of the Yale Journal on Regulation. He completed his undergraduate studies at Princeton University, graduating cum laude with an AB degree.
His scholarly work applies humanities approaches to legal theory, with particular focus on the ethical, social, and psychological impacts that diagnoses of fetal genetic abnormalities can have on pregnant women and their families. His research spans civil rights, gender law, constitutional issues, and the intersection of literature with legal theory. Professor Asbury has presented his work at numerous symposia including those at Stanford University, Yale Law School, and the University of Utah, addressing topics ranging from hip-hop and constitutional law to targeted regulation of abortion providers.

Outside his Drexel responsibilities, Professor Asbury serves on the Yale Law School Association Executive Committee and the Advisory Board of the Phillips Academy Institute for Recruitment of Teachers, which focuses on diversifying teaching faculties across American educational institutions. He has been actively involved with the John Mercer Langston Black Male Law Faculty Writing Workshop Planning and Advisory Committee since 2013, demonstrating commitment to supporting underrepresented scholars in legal academia.
