Brentney Hamilton

Brentney Hamilton is a Lecturer at Southern Methodist University (SMU), focusing on first-year writing and critical reasoning courses. She holds a B.A. in English from SMU (2007), an M.T.S. in Religion, Ethics and Politics from Harvard Divinity School (2009), and is pursuing a Ph.D. in Rhetoric and Composition at Texas Woman’s University. Her research emphasizes Rural/Working Class Rhetorics, American Transcendentalism, and innovative pedagogical strategies.

Education highlights include the Margaret Terry Crooks Award and Lon Tinkle Scholarship during her undergraduate years. Professional accolades include the Barbara Jordan Media Award (2018) for disability reporting while at The Dallas Morning News, and two HOPE Teaching Award nominations (2020, 2023) from SMU students. She was also recognized as a Dallas Museum of Art Arts and Letters Live “Hot Newcomer” (2005).
