Brent Kobashi, MD, is a Clinical Professor in the Division of General Internal Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), School of Medicine. Dr. Kobashi earned his MD from Stanford School of Medicine and completed his residency at UCSF. In 2017, he completed the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Champion Training at UCSF, reflecting his commitment to equity in healthcare and education.
His research and professional interests focus on primary care, chronic disease management, preventive care, LGBTQ+ health, healthy aging, and patient-centered medicine. He is particularly invested in medical education innovation, with a strong emphasis on clinical teaching, competency-based education, problem-based learning, and supporting diverse learners. His work aims to improve how clinical educators adapt to learners at different levels and structure effective workplace learning experiences.
His two most recent publications explore how clinical teachers develop skills and sequence learning activities for trainees. These works highlight themes in educational psychology, faculty development, and curriculum design within clinical settings.

Dr. Kobashi is actively involved in mentoring and advising. He serves as a coach for UCSF medical students and precepts internal medicine trainees in continuity clinic. He holds a leadership position as Co-Director of the Career Advising Program at the UCSF School of Medicine, where he supports students in professional development and career planning. He is also engaged in quality and practice improvement efforts aimed at enhancing patient care and reducing disparities.
He collaborates closely with prominent medical education researchers, including Patricia O’Sullivan, Arianne Teherani, and Theodorus ten Cate. His scholarly network includes faculty across UCSF and other UC campuses who share interests in health professions education and clinical teaching excellence.
