Brennen Mills is a Senior Lecturer and active researcher in Paramedical Science and Public Health at the School of Medical and Health Sciences, Edith Cowan University. He serves as Chair of the School's Ethics Subcommittee. His teaching includes courses on evidence-based practice, medical science projects, and health research methodology. He holds a PhD from ECU (2016), a BSc (Public Health) from Curtin University (2010), and a BHealthSci from the University of Western Australia (2009).
His research focuses on virtual/augmented reality applications, pre-hospital care training, simulation-based learning, interprofessional education, skills acquisition, and eye-tracking technologies. Key projects include developing VR aggression management tools, immersive birthing simulations, and serious games for health education. He has secured grants totaling over $2M for projects like IVADE (aggression de-escalation training) and ParaVerse (military parachute simulation).
Recent publications (2023–2025) explore topics such as emergency ambulance utilization, alcohol advertisement impacts, VR clinical training efficacy, and paramedic childbirth preparedness. He has received awards including the 2024 Young Tall Poppy Award and multiple innovation awards for health tech solutions. His work spans collaborations with the Australian Defence Force, healthcare organizations, and educational institutions to advance simulation-based education and emergency response strategies.
Brennen supervises PhD and master’s candidates in areas like VR training efficacy, paramedic fatigue analysis, and emergency management protocols. His research bridges clinical practice, technology innovation, and public health policy to improve healthcare education and patient outcomes.
