Brenden Bliss is an Assistant Professor at Hawaiʻi Pacific University (HPU) within the College of Professional Studies' Department of Public Service. He holds a PhD in War Studies from King’s College London (2023), an MA from the same institution (2003), and a BA in History from Andrews University (2001). His research focuses on 19th-20th century military and naval history, particularly British naval influence in the Pacific with an emphasis on Hawaiʻi. He transitioned from administrative roles at HPU’s Military Campus Programs to full-time teaching in 2011.
He created HPU’s Associate of Science in Homeland Security (2014) and currently chairs the program, having shifted his title to Instructor of Homeland Security in 2018. Bliss serves as Curriculum Area Liaison between the Department of History, Humanities and International Studies and the College of Professional Studies for History, Diplomacy & Military Studies, and International Studies programs.
