Brendan Saltaformaggio is an Associate Professor in the School of Cybersecurity and Privacy and the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology, with a courtesy appointment in the School of Computer Science. He leads the Cyber Forensics Innovation (CyFI) Lab, focusing on advanced cybercrime investigation and malware analysis in mobile/IoT environments. His research spans computer systems security, cyber forensics, and untrusted software vetting. He has received funding from the ONR, DARPA, and NSF, among others. His work has been recognized with awards such as the ACM SIGSAC Doctoral Dissertation Award and Best Paper distinctions at top security conferences.
Saltaformaggio earned his B.S. in Computer Science from the University of New Orleans (2012), and his M.S. and Ph.D. from Purdue University (2014, 2016). His research has led to impactful contributions, including the removal of malicious software packages from platforms like PyPI and the collaboration with the FBI on smart contract fraud investigations. Key achievements include developing frameworks like DSCRETE (Best Student Paper at USENIX Security 2014) and GUITAR (Best Paper at CCS 2015).
His recent publications address topics such as botnet remediation, AI-driven forensic analysis, and cryptocurrency fraud detection. He actively contributes to the security community through conference tutorials and media outreach, with his work featured in outlets like IEEE GlobalSpec, TechRadar, and Communications of the ACM.
