Brendan Keating, PhD, is an Associate Professor in the Division of Transplantation, Department of Surgery at NYU Grossman School of Medicine. He leads the Keating Lab, which is dedicated to advancing transplantation medicine through multi-omic science, integrating genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, and metabolomics with AI to understand transplant biology and improve outcomes.
- PhD from Oxford University
- Fellowship in Genomics at Sanger Center, Cambridge
- Postdoctoral Training in Translational Medicine, University of Pennsylvania
His research focuses on immunogenetics, precision medicine, and xenotransplantation, particularly in kidney and heart transplants. He investigates HLA and non-HLA genetic factors, eplet mismatch, and immune responses in pig-to-human models.
The recent publications reveal a strong trend in using longitudinal multi-omics to dissect molecular responses in xenotransplantation and allografts, with emphasis on equity in allocation, polygenic risk scores, and host-graft interactions. His work bridges clinical transplantation with deep molecular profiling.
- Balancing equity in kidney allocation
- Polygenic risk in transplant outcomes
- Multimodal immune phenotyping
- Genome-wide association in transplantation
Dr. Keating mentors a diverse team of postdocs, students, and research staff, and collaborates with institutions like Stanford Medicine, Providence Health, and iGeneTRAiN. His lab is supported by NIAID and NYU’s Cardiovascular Research Center.
The Keating Lab operates at the Alexandria Center for Life Science, fostering interdisciplinary research that integrates clinical insights with cutting-edge genomics to transform transplant medicine.
