Brenda O'Neill is a Lecturer in the Department of Computing and Mathematics at South East Technological University (SETU), Ireland. She also serves as Director of the Centre for Information Systems & Techno-culture (INSYTE) and is a PhD researcher within the same institution. Her work focuses on Human Centered Systems (HCS) and the application of Participatory Action Research (PAR) to digitize cultural heritage. O'Neill holds a BSc in Applied Computing (1998) and an MSc in Emerging Standards in Online Education (2004).
Research interests include cultural heritage preservation through digital methods, educational technology integration, and ethical considerations in human-machine collaboration. She leads the AURA project (2020–present), a national initiative combining digital humanists, computer scientists, and stakeholders to enhance cultural asset accessibility. Recent publications explore frameworks for heritage digitization, AI ethics, and educational applications of cultural archives.
Professional activities include organizing conferences like the 2024 IFAC TECIS conference and serving on the Action Research Network leadership. Her work aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goal 4 (Quality Education) by emphasizing inclusive digital education and heritage preservation.
