Brandon Waldon is an Assistant Professor with dual appointments in the Linguistics Program and Department of Philosophy at the University of South Carolina's College of Arts and Sciences. His office is located in Close-Hipp 528 at 1705 College Street, Columbia, SC 29208.
Dr. Waldon's research examines how context, linguistic meaning, and social cognition jointly enable linguistic communication. His primary research interests include modality, vagueness/imprecision, conversational implicature, and legal interpretation. He employs diverse methodological approaches including formal analysis, psycholinguistic experimentation, and computational modeling.
His recent scholarly output demonstrates strong engagement with the application of linguistic and philosophical insights to legal textual analysis, particularly examining how large language models handle legal interpretation challenges.
