Brandi Kiel Reese

Brandi Kiel Reese is an Associate Professor at the University of South Alabama and Senior Marine Scientist at the Dauphin Island Sea Lab, where she integrates microbial ecology, geomicrobiology, and systems biology to study aquatic and sediment biogeochemical cycling.

• Research focuses on microbial communities in marine subsurface, coastal hypoxia, and deep continental mines, using metatranscriptomics and high-throughput culturing

Her recent publications (2019-2014) span coastal hurricane impacts, subsurface microbial guilds, and extreme environment genomics. She mentors students including M.S. Sobol, M.M. Mullis, L.A. Zinke, and R.E. Weisend, and teaches courses in microbial ecology and geomicrobiology.
