Bradley Gibson is a Professor in the Psychology Department at the University of Notre Dame, specializing in Cognition, Brain, and Behavior. He serves as Co-Chair of the Neuroscience and Behavior Major and directs the Attention, Memory, and Perception (AMP) Laboratory, established in 1994. He holds a Ph.D. in Psychology and Cognitive Science from the University of Arizona (1992) and a B.S. from Colorado State University (1982). His postdoctoral training was at Johns Hopkins University in Cognitive Neuropsychology.
His research focuses on perception (internal bodily states and visual perception), attention (top-down control, voluntary shifts), memory (temporal/spatial encoding), and ADHD. He has mentored hundreds of undergraduates and dozens of graduate students. His work has been funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF) and the Institute of Education Sciences (IES). He currently serves as a Consulting Editor for top psychology journals and previously as an Associate Editor for Attention, Perception, & Psychophysics.
Recent publications explore the interplay between voluntary attention control, memory dynamics, and ADHD interventions. His studies often use experimental paradigms to dissect cognitive mechanisms, with applications in clinical and educational contexts. His findings highlight variability in attentional strategies and the neurobiological underpinnings of memory systems.
Notable contributions include linking locus coeruleus-norepinephrine pathways to working memory and attention, and demonstrating how recall instructions shape memory's spatial-temporal structure. He also investigates how parental stress influences ADHD management in adolescents.
His grants and editorial roles reflect his leadership in advancing cognitive science methodologies and bridging laboratory findings to real-world applications.
