His research focuses on integrated quantum dot lasers for silicon photonic circuits, with an emphasis on nonlinear dynamics and quantum phenomena in optoelectronic microstructures. Applications include high-speed optical communications, optical and quantum computing, and next-generation spectral sensing. His work has produced over 40 publications in high-impact journals like Nature, Nature Photonics, and Light: Science & Applications.
Dr. Dong's funded projects include the Ultra-Low-Noise Quantum-Dot Lasers for Silicon Photonic Integrated Circuits under the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) Discovery Grant program (2025-2030) and a supplementary grant from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC Springboard program) (2025-2026). He contributes regularly to scientific evaluation for IEEE, OPTICA, and IOP journals.
Dr. Dong leads research at the Optical Communications Laboratory (OCL) and collaborates with the Center for Optics, Photonics and Lasers (COPL) at Laval University, advancing silicon photonic integration of quantum dot lasers.
